One question interview: John Waters

Because my life is pretty random, I ended up tagging along with Maia, Matt, Tony, Lisa and Jody (in that order because it has a nice beat to it) for an art exhibit at a sculptural gardens featuring John Waters.

I love John Waters and his particular sense of humor, so it was a great pleasure to meet him. I couldn't let my grossly overpaid film education go to waste, so I just went for it:

"What do you think has been the biggest factor of your longevity in the film industry?"

John Waters:

"Diversification and re-invention. You have to do something different so the kids come out and support you. You have to be current... I think I read 114 magazines a month."

I would definitely recommend checking out his photography. Insanely clever. All of the pieces at the exhibit were from personal collections... While I know a piece would be ungodly expensive, I think I need a ball park figure. Given how the markets are doing, I think something involving Jesus and superimposed Farrah Fawcett hair (two different works) would appreciate in value more.

As far as sculpture, I was highly amused by his two figures of toddlers playing across from each other. From a distance, they look like two normal babies. Up close, one has the face of Michael Jackson and the other has the face of Charles Manson. On a wall reads, "... Could you imagine if Michael Jackson and Charles Manson played together as kids? Maybe they would have saved the world from each other." That... or there would be a complete fall of Western civilization.
