Companion After Dark

So, my favorite lunch spot, Companion Bakery, just launched a new concept for the Central West End neighborhood: Companion After Dark.

I think I might be mildly obsessed... it's perfect if you're a total foodie and looking for a reasonably priced dining experience. We went with my co-workers to kind of check it out and get an idea of the new menu.

First and foremost: the portions are huge. Really huge. Like, an appetizer can really be a meal and is perfect for sharing among 4-6 people. Both Justin and I had the artichoke and spinach sourdough boules... Carol had a plate of roasted vegetables and hummus that was more a platter than a plate, and Dan had their Strawberry Fields salad that was the size of his head.

While they normally only have salads, soups and sandwiches at lunch time, they actually have comfort food entrees at night. Dan had an Irish beef stew. Carol had a white sausage and bean cassoulet. Justin had a chicken pesto flatbread pizza. I had a homebaked mac 'n cheese topped with bread crumbs and a side of greens. Not one entree was more than $10.

Then there's the desserts. None of the desserts were crazy impressive, but for the given price they make a good end to the dinner menu. I had their root beer float with Fitz's (local) rootbeer but it is also available with Scahfly's chocolate stout.

I definitely recommend it for a casual dinner out. It's all about the food.
